Loft : Utilizing the wasted space

Do you ever feel you have some wasted space at home, a room without purpose or a corner which can be better utilized? We did, for our high ceiling entry way

After spending good 7 years in this house, we kind of started feeling high ceiling entry was underutilized. I wasn't keen but hubby wanted to put it to good use. During bigger gatherings, kids and their friends used to spend time in either of kids bedrooms. Hubs always felt an additional room would be good. Long story short, so we added a loft! yes, our high ceiling entry doesn't having soaring heights any more.

We had an amazing contractor who made the entire process easy, hassle free. We had to wait for the city's approval in between the stages. So the whole process took 3 weeks, whereas the actual process took only 3 days.

Its a picture heavy post, please excuse me :)

Lets start with how it looked before.

Day 1 went by so fast, by the end of the day, we had the ceiling/subfloor :)

Day 2 :- Sheetrocks went in and texture was sprayed

Final Day :)

We are so happy that it turned out to be better than what we had envisioned. Having a good contractor made the process more enjoyable, less hassle and absolutely no stress! We are super impressed with his work.

Decorating Entry Way/Living Room /Foyer - Journey So Far.....

Hello friends!!

Want to take you thru the entry way into our sweet home. We have a high ceiling Entry way/Foyer. That was one of the key factors that motivated us to buy this house. You have seen most of this room in different posts, this post summarizes the decorating journey of our  Entry Way/Living Room /Foyer so far.

Previous owner had painted only two rooms (guest bedroom and master bedroom), rest of the rooms were plain white.

Before:

We painted this wall in chocolaty custom color

Added the board and batten

This wall still needs attention.

To dress up the windows, added Indian Inlay Cornice

Indian Inlay Cornice, Brass lamp, Brass Artifacts, fire trumpet flowers (kanakambara) plant, Elephant plant stand add nice touch to the Indian theme that is going on in this room.

Gold x-base table is from world market.

Rest of the room still remain the same except for this side of the stairs, Recently I replaced the x-base table with this dual tone dresser. Another Craigslist list find, ginger jar lamp adds nice touch to the dresser. South Indian lamp stand pops up against the Gujarati Mirror work Torana.

I love how this wall is shaping up specially since this is what one gets to see as soon as one enters.

I still have a looong way to go to call it done.
-- Replace coffee and Side tables
-- Replace sofa (or the pillows to start with )
-- Curtains ??
-- Change the lamps
-- Gallery wall ??
-- May be crown molding?
-- List goes on

Come back next week to see what we did with high ceiling entry way.
