Garage floor gets a makeover with Epoxy

During two weeks Christmas break, we accomplished quite a lot on the garage makeover front.

Our garage floor was a huge mess. Oil stains, spray paint residues, normal wear and tear all contributed towards the mess. Epoxy was the only way to bring some life back into the floor. Epoxy not only resists oil stains, wipes floor clean, also beads water. Color chips and custom paint colors hide imperfections in the concrete floor.  I wanted to try with Epoxy kits that u can get in home improvement stores. Kept procrastinating as few of my friends mentioned that theirs was chipping off or peeling off.

So we got Industrial strength Epoxy done for our garage floor. Yes, you read it right, we GOT it done :) Hubby's colleague was getting it done, hubby asked me, if we should get it too. I happily agreed. Putting Epoxy on garage floor has been on our laundry list for a long time. We felt pricing was right, so went ahead with the contractor to do an Industrial strength epoxy.

Most time consuming part was removing stuff from the garage and emptying the two cabinets. We used this opportunity to clean/Purge/Donate/Organize. Can't believe, I am posting it on the blog, here is how garage looked during/before the cleaning process :)

I have never seen my garage this clean ever not even when we moved in (There were few things from the previous owner).

- After Cleaning and Itching

- After repairing the cracks on the floor and rolling the epoxy mixture (epoxy paint and hardener)

- After spreading the paint chips on the epoxy

- After top coat

Here is the closeup, we used medium tan color.

Jigsaw Puzzle as wall Art

Hey, how are you all? Hope your winter break was relaxing.

I had one of the best and relaxing winter break. Along with lots of socializing, biking and board games with kids, we did get a lot accomplished in the garage, can't wait to share that with you all.

Solving the big jigsaw puzzles has become kind of family tradition with kids during winter break. I and my older one LOVE solving puzzles, so our Santa does leave puzzle under Christmas tree every year. Earlier, after solving, the pieces would normally go back to the box. I hated putting them back in the box but I couldn't leave them as is too. For the past couple of years, I have been using puzzles as art :). Yes!! its a great way to add a wove factor on cheap.

Materials:
-- Foam core sheet
-- Solved Jigsaw Puzzle
-- Modge Podge Matte finish
-- Foam brush

Procedure is very Simple.
-- Solve the puzzle ( yes, its is a pre-req :) )
-- Cut the foam core sheet little larger than the actual puzzle
-- Spread the modge podge on the foam core using the foam brush
-- Transfer the puzzle onto the foam board and press it gently, so that it adheres. Flip it to carefully after few minutes see if there are any loose pieces. Fix the loose puzzle pieces with little modge podge.
-- If you want, spread a thin layer of modge podge on the top too. Though it looks milky, dries up clear.
-- Hang it up

Instead of foam core, you can use the backing of the photo frame if you want to frame it.

Here is the final product, ready to be hanged.

Since I had every thing else on hand, my project cost was whopping $1 on the foam core sheet from dollar store.
